The humanity and humility of the Sikhs

Mimi919 April 14, 2017 Leave a Comment

I believe that traveling offers the world’s largest classroom. Often, I travel to Toronto, Ontario (Canada) to visit friends. My visits have offered me the opportunity to meet many East Indians, experience their tasty cuisine, and learn a bit about the Sikh religion.

The turban (as most Americans refer to it) is called a dastaar. This headwear is an article of faith that represents self-respect, courage, spirituality, and covers their uncut hair.

Everyone that wears a turban is not someone that should be feared, and worse, treated with disrespect. I have found the humanity and humility of the Sikhs refreshing.

Keep traveling, keep exploring cultures different from those which you are comfortable. This can only make this world a better place.

About

I venture to learn about others in faraway places from home to gain a better perspective of the world in which I am a very small part. I yearn to write about these experiences and hear from others about theirs in the hopes that sharing our experiences will build bridges of understanding and encourage others to travel with open, approachable, accepting and appreciative minds.
